suck it up & make the record
OCTOBER 23, 2019
it's fall. It feels like I wait all year for it. We're in full swing now and I'm steadily adjusting to self-employment. Some days are easier and more promising than others. And sometimes I fall into the, "What the hell am I doing?" rabbit hole. At this point, I'm just trying to throw myself into my craft. That's all I can do, anyways.
Some cool things have happened the last couple months. I hopped on shows opening for touring bands such as The Quebe Sisters at Fitzgerald's and The New Respects at The Union in Naperville. Our live show is really coming together and it makes me proud when I think about where I was just a year ago. In addition, the boys and I headed down to Hickory Hills, IL last week and recorded a live session at DZ Records and I'm so proud of how it turned out. It made me even more excited to hit the studio and start making the record.
Zach and I are busy working on pre-production and the songs are really starting to take shape. We're planning a trip down to Nashville to scope out potential studios and hopefully pick up a show or two while there. I have a gut feeling Nashville will be good to us and that we'll find what we are looking for. I'm trying not to get my hopes up too high, though.
In the meantime, we are prepping for a new music video for a song Zach wrote called "Lean Into The Haze." It is a gorgeous tune that gives me serious A Star Is Born vibes. He is sitting across from me working on *string arrangements* (yes, strings!) as we speak.
I've been falling into pits of self-doubt recently but just keep telling myself to "suck it up and make the record." Because this record is what is keeping me going. And I'm so, so ready to make it.
